Hi! Welcome to Mom Up Life.

I am a mother, among many other things; but, in this season that I am in now, motherhood is a pretty big role. I am also a bereaved mother--having lost my first child about four years ago. I like to write and share my stories of reflection and experience with others, with the hope that one less person will feel alone.

That's me. Now, what about Mom Up Life?

It started as a simple statement one day, where I said, "Mom Up", related to an article about a parent who blamed medical staff for not using pre-natal testing to advise her to terminate a pregnancy with possible Down syndrome. I was heated, being a parent of a child with Down syndrome myself. And, I probably was a bit unfair in my remarks, I recognize that now.

But, the term got me thinking. When life gets hard, you often hear things like, "pull up your big girl panties and go forward". That really translates into, "get yourself the support you need so you can get through this shit-storm". Right?

Well, that's how I feel about the term, "Mom Up". To me, it is the place where you find the strongest, grittiest and most tenacious support to get the job done. We aren't talking big girl panties anymore, ladies. We are talking, SPANX; and not the Target brand either. The good ones, the expensive ones, the ones that take my tri-fold muffin top and make it look like a sleek table top. That's the kind of strong support we are talking about here.

But, one Mom alone doesn't really possess this type of strength at all times. The term, "Mom Up" describes a collective strength, garnered by the moms that came before us and those who walk along side of us. When we, "Mom Up", even if we are physically alone, we can tap into the communal strength that has been built from the experiences of other mothers and bolster our own strength.

So, though the first time I used the term was more in judgement (listen, we all do it, it's human), I recognize that there is so much more to it than that. Explore this site more if you agree.

Thanks for visiting!

~Kelly
